Where Light Was Held

In this painting the reflection of an overhanging hawthorn is mirrored in the surface of a pond. Water, light, sky, branches and wind become interactive participants in this tableau. Wind fractures the reflection into shifting distortions and abstracted forms. By contrast, in the hot summer the reflective surface disappears entirely, leaving only dry earth where light and sky were once held.

This painting represents impermanence and seasonal change, suggesting that even the most familiar forms are reshaped by the elements. It reflects the continual transformation of the landscape and the fleeting conditions through which reflection is experienced.
