Knole Sycamore

This two hundred years old sycamore, stands inaccessible, protected behind its fence. This painting focuses on the sycamore’s winged seeds. They spin like tiny helicopters as they fall and can be carried by the wind far from the parent tree. Look around and you will see the descendants of this remarkable mother tree, the surrounding sycamores. Although the majority of the seeds produced do not grow into established trees, they are all important in nature’s cycle by providing food for animals or by returning to the soil in decay.

This work celebrates the processes of inheritance and renewal, revealing how a single tree can shape the world around it and leave a legacy that extends far beyond its own lifetime.
