The shard-like shape of this standing deadwood gives it a sense of presence and grandeur. In contrast to the iconic man-made structure the experience of this organic form will constantly change. In time it will be unrecognisable from its former self.

The painting imagines three stages of the tree’s gradual transformation over time, diminishing in size and stature as it slowly returns to the earth. As the wood decomposes, valuable nutrients are released back into the soil, supporting the emergence of fresh green ferns and new growth.

The work celebrates deadwood and the remarkable biodiversity it sustains. It is an elegant example of nature’s interconnected cycles of decay, renewal and regeneration.
